Ontario Teacher Strike 2026: Grade 12 Online Courses | ROA

Updated October 7, 2026

Will there be an Ontario teacher strike in 2026? Public high school teachers vote on a strike mandate from November 6 to 16, and no strike has been called yet.

Royal Ontario Academy offers Grade 12 OSSD credit courses fully online. You can register today, start as soon as your course access is set up, finish in as little as four weeks, and keep earning marks whatever happens at the bargaining table.

What we know about the Ontario teacher strike vote

Here are the facts as of October 7, 2026.

Five days is not much time to rearrange a Grade 12 year. During the last major dispute, in the 2019 to 2020 school year, public high schools across Ontario closed for a series of one day walkouts. Nobody can say whether that will happen again. What you can control is your own plan.

Keep attending your classes and handing in your work at your day school. An ROA course is a backup that you control, not a reason to step away from school.

Why Grade 12 students should plan now

Admission offers are built on your Grade 12 marks, and the calendar is fixed. These are the published dates for fall 2027 admission.

Ontario universities assess six Grade 12 U or M courses, including the prerequisites for your program. If one of those courses is disrupted, the deadlines stay where they are. Do not assume a university or college will change an admission condition because of labour action.

Students who secure a key prerequisite now are not waiting on the outcome of a vote. That is the whole idea.

Six reasons Ontario families choose ROA

1. The credit is the same. ROA is inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education (BSID 669115) and grants the same OSSD credits students earn in any Ontario high school.

2. Your course keeps running. ROA is a private school and is not part of the school board bargaining now under way. Our courses are open every day of the year.

3. You start when you are ready. There are no semesters and no waiting for a start date. Once your registration and prerequisite are confirmed, your course opens.

4. You set the pace. Finish in as little as four weeks or take the standard six months. You choose when to write your tests and your final exam.

5. Your marks go where they need to go. We send marks directly to OUAC, OCAS and your day school.

6. It counts twice. An ROA credit also counts toward the two online learning credits Ontario students need to graduate.

Courses are written by Ontario Certified Teachers or subject experts holding a Master’s degree. Lessons are built in short units with interactive activities, our science and math courses use virtual simulated labs, and your teacher gives written feedback on your work.

How fast can you finish a course?

An Ontario credit is built on 110 hours of learning. How quickly you finish depends on how many hours a week you can give it.

One recent ROA student completed Advanced Functions in 11 weeks. Tell us your deadline before you start and we will help you map out a schedule that works.

Steady work matters. ROA expects regular activity in every course, and our Principal follows up with any student who falls behind. Final exams are closed book and supervised by an online proctor, so you will need a webcam and microphone.

Grade 12 courses and tuition

ROA offers close to 40 Grade 12 courses. These are the ones Ontario students ask for most:

Tuition is simple, and it drops when you take more than one course.

All course content is included, so there are no textbooks to buy. English students may need to borrow or buy a novel or play. Browse the full Grade 12 catalogue.

Stay at your school and add an ROA credit

You do not have to leave your high school. Part time students stay registered at their day school and take one or more courses with ROA. Your day school remains your home school and still issues your diploma.

Here is how your marks are reported:

On request to our Principal, one parent can also be given access to follow their student’s progress.

Three things to do before you register

We want you to register with confidence, so here is our honest advice.

  1. Confirm your prerequisites. Check the admission requirements for each program on your list. Some universities have their own policies on repeated courses and on courses taken outside your day school, so ask them directly.
  2. Talk to us before you drop anything. If you are already taking the same course at your day school, speak with your guidance counsellor and with ROA first. Marks and unfinished work do not transfer between schools, and under Ontario’s full disclosure rules a repeated Grade 11 or 12 course shows on your transcript.
  3. Choose the course you need. Send us your latest report card or transcript and we will confirm your prerequisite and the right course. Tuition is not refundable, although you can switch to a different course within 10 days of registering.

Common questions from Ontario families

Will universities and colleges accept an ROA credit?

Any institution that accepts OSSD credits recognizes credits from ROA. Our graduates have been admitted to the University of Toronto, Queen’s University, Western University, the University of Alberta, Wilfrid Laurier University and many others. Each institution sets its own admission requirements, so always check the details for your program.

How can I confirm ROA is a real Ontario school?

Look us up on the Ministry of Education’s list of private schools. Our BSID number is 669115.

What if there is no strike?

Then a credit you needed is finished on your own schedule and the mark is already in place for your applications. Nothing about that depends on a strike.

Can I take just one course?

Yes. Many Ontario students take a single Grade 12 course with us while attending their day school full time.

Register in three steps

  1. Choose your courses. Pick them from the Grade 12 catalogue and add them to your cart.
  2. Complete the registration form and pay. Payment is made securely online through Flywire.
  3. Start learning. We verify your registration and prerequisite, then open your course.

You do not need to wait for the result of a vote to make a good decision about your Grade 12 year.
