At Royal Ontario Academy, international students can:

• Study from their home country at any time of day or night.
• Enroll in any Royal Ontario Academy course without a study permit.
• Access Canadian high school courses from anywhere in the world.
• Earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Who is Considered an International Student?

Students who are neither Canadian citizens nor permanent residents of Canada are classified as international students. Those who have completed relevant coursework in another country that aligns with the Ontario curriculum may qualify for waivers for courses with prerequisites. For courses without prerequisites, international students can register and begin at any time.

Not Pursuing the OSSD?

If you only need to complete individual course credits without working toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and your course requires a prerequisite, you must submit a Prerequisite Waiver Application. This application, along with all required supporting documents, will be reviewed and approved by the Principal before your enrollment is finalized.

Want to Earn the OSSD?

International students pursuing the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) must submit an Equivalent Credit Assessment Application. If you have completed high school studies outside Ontario, you may qualify for equivalent credits toward the OSSD. After review, the Principal will provide a detailed credit assessment and outline the remaining credits required to complete the diploma.

What Are Equivalent Credits?

Equivalent credits are granted for high school courses completed outside Ontario that align with the learning outcomes of the Ontario curriculum. These credits count toward the OSSD requirements, reducing the number of courses a student needs to take based on their previous academic achievements.
