Earn an Ontario OSSD from Outside Ontario | Royal Ontario Academy

Out of Province Students – Admission Requirements

There are two types of out-of-province students who can study at Royal Ontario Academy:

Canadian Students Entering the OSSD System from Another Province

If you are a Canadian student currently studying in another province and would like to join the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) system, you can apply for an assessment to determine how your previous coursework aligns with the OSSD requirements.

For students seeking the OSSD, submit an Equivalent Credit Assessment Application. If you’ve completed high school studies outside Ontario, you may be eligible for equivalent credits toward the OSSD. After your application is reviewed, the Principal will provide a detailed summary of the equivalent credits granted and outline any remaining credits required to meet the diploma requirements.

If you are an existing Ontario student who has already begun working towards the OSSD but are now living outside Ontario, you can continue your studies through Royal Ontario Academy. We will manage your Ontario Student Record (OSR) and ensure you stay on track to complete your OSSD while living out-of-province.

If you’re only looking to complete specific credits, submit a Prerequisite Waiver Application. This application, along with all necessary documentation, must be reviewed and approved by our Principal before your admission can be finalized.

If you want Royal Ontario Academy to manage your Ontario Student Record (OSR) and act as your home school while you live outside Ontario, you must enroll as a full-time student. You must register for at least 3 credits before our Principal can request your records and begin the transfer from your previous Ontario school. To grant your diploma as your home school, Royal Ontario Academy also requires you to complete at least 6 credits in courses taught by ROA. Credits earned through PLAR, equivalency, or other schools count toward your 30 credits for the OSSD but not toward this six-credit minimum.
